Installing & Testing Domestic Photovoltaic Systems

City & Guilds 2372 Certificate Course

3 days training over weekdays & weekends course : £ 495.00 + VAT

An alternative course for non-electricians is also part of this programme

In April 2010, the Government Carbon Reduction Commitment will commence with the first batch of Carbon Emission Trading in the UK. The new system will allow companies to obtain credit for installing renewable and sell electricity to the grid. They will also get paid for making their own energy. It provides a great opportunity for Energy Assessors to add a revenue stream to their services.
We have contacted PV companies who wish to recruit qualified people for:

- Consultancy roles
- Sales roles
- Installation engineers

The course is based around the Certificate In Installing & Testing Domestic Photovoltaic Systems - City & Guilds 2372.

performance certificate.

This City and Guilds 2372 Certificate is intended for qualified electricians who want to install grid connected domestic photovotaic systems that are either integrated into, or retro fitted onto, a domestic property. It is concerned with domestic systems installation within prescribed specifications and therefore does not cover design or glazed or curtain wall systems.
It is expected that candidates will be practicing electricians and have appropriate qualifications related to electrical installation, knowledge of the IEE Wiring Regulations and inspection and testing. The award is designed to offer specific skills and knowledge to electricians to ensure they are conversant with the Regulations and Codes of Practice related to PV systems. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) supports the recognition of qualified personnel within this initiative and sees PV systems as an essential part of the Government energy policy.

The topics covered during the course include the following:

  • Photovoltaic systems
  • Standards and Regulations/Guidelines and Codes of Practice Safety
  • PV system components
  • Approvals Installations
  • Commissioning and testing and Customer care
Course certification is awarded upon successful completion of both the written and practical assessments, this certificate can then be used as evidence of your training and ability to install and commission PV systems.
The alternative course is for non-electricians will be delivered at the same time and recognised by NICEIC but they cannot make the final connection to the final grid connections and testing before the system goes live.

The course will include training in ‘Working at Heights and Manual Handling’ but there is an exam and certificate fee for these separately.

The 4th day is set aside for ‘Working at Heights and Manual Handling’ as separate qualifications for £100.00 +VAT each. Candidates with existing qualifications will not need to undertake these 2 courses and exams.

The course will cover:

  • Environmental background
  • Different types of solar PV technology
  • Design and specification of solar PV systems
  • Installation of solar PV systems
